- Do the stress and anxiety of past traumas still cast a shadow over your life?
- Do memories of trauma or abuse make you feel like you’re actually experiencing those horrible incidents again?
It doesn’t have to be this way. I’m here to help.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an extremely effective therapy to relieve people of the devastating effects of past traumas. It is the treatment of choice for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder.
EMDR relieves the lingering effects of trauma by stimulating the powerful healing abilities of the brain and nervous system. As a result, most people experience deep relief from disturbing memories. At the same time, people let go of self-defeating thoughts that were born from the trauma, and replace them with life-enhancing beliefs.
EMDR helps to speed up the therapeutic process by resolving traumatic events quickly. The process can be intense in the beginning, because of the traumatic nature of some memories. But as we complete the process, most people report profound relief from the stress and anxiety associated with traumatic memories, and experience positive new feelings about themselves and their lives.
In EMDR, we will work together to identify specific traumas that are still affecting your life. We will identify the negative thoughts and beliefs that you learned from those events. Then, with eye movement or alternate taps on your hands or legs, we will stimulate your brain’s healing capacity to move you through the difficult material to a sense of relief and wholeness.
