I'm an optimist. I believe we all have the capacity for healing, no matter how deep the grief or how difficult the pain. And I believe we all instinctively move toward healing and wholeness.
It's a privilege to watch people discover how strong and how good they are. In the years that I've practiced psychotherapy, I've seen people bring about miracles in their lives. The people I work with are a never ending source of inspiration.
I trained for two years at the Giarretto Institute - a pioneering treatment program for families where there has been sexual abuse. The Giarretto model has been replicated at 169 agencies and programs around the world. While at Giarretto I worked extensively with adult abuse survivors, teen and adult sex offenders, as well as non-offending parents in families where there had been child abuse.
As a counselor for teens, I've trained extensively and have a lot of experience working with at-risk teens in both residential and out-patient settings. And I have trained counselors in in-patient adolescent care. In addition, I have worked in child and adolescent crisis intervention, assessing teens for possible suicide risk or possible risk to others.
As a hospice counselor, I helped many people through the death of a loved one, either recent or impending, and helped people cope with terminal illness.
My experience is extensive working with the courts, Department of Probation, the Department of Mental Health, the Department of Children and Family Services and Child Protective Services. I'm available to see court-ordered clients and others involved with those agencies.
